Some of you may
recall going to Brownfield TX to look at Guar as a potential crop in Pecos
Valley back in 2003 or so. Well NMSU has a graduate student looking at this as
his project and they decided to look at and asked if you would complete a
survey on guar. Guar was grown by Herb Bindle family during WWII as part
of the war effort so it will grow here. Guar gum is used in a long list of products but more
recently it has a use in fracking and oil and gas industry.
The Guar or cluster bean, with the
botanical name Cyamopsis tetragonoloba, is an annual legume and the source of guar
gum. It is also known as Gavar, Guwar, or Guvar bean. The origin of Cyamopsis
tetragonoloba is unknown, since it has never been found in the wild.

Extension power point on Guar at http://lubbock.tamu.edu/files/2013/06/Guar-Production-Industry-Texas-May2013-Trostle.pdf
I was hoping to
get a door prize to be drawn from those completing the survey but I have not
had any volunteer gifts yet.
Below is the
survey if you want to print it an get it to me or you can complete it on
line at
So help this
graduate student out and complete the survey.
I think it has
some real potential here in the Pecos Valley.
