Dear University Cooperator,
Chlorpyrifos Update
Last night the Department of
Justice petitioned for a rehearing of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decision
from August 9, 2018 against Chlorpyrifos. This decision stays (halts) the
9th Circuit Court of Appeals decision until a new hearing takes
place. We will continue to provide updates on Chlorpyrifos as they become
available. At this point there is no timeline for a new hearing and all
registered uses of Chlorpyrifos remain in place.
Chlorpyrifos has played a key
role in pest management efforts in the U.S. and around the world for more than
50 years, and remains a critical tool used to protect a number of critical U.S.
food crops from damage and significant loss of yield due to insect pests. There
are a number of stakeholders that are advocating for growers and Chlorpyrifos, including
Secretary Perdue. He understands the importance of Chlorpyrifos to the American
farmer and issued a release which can be found at the link below which is one
of many examples of the advocacy for Chlorpyrifos:
